Eligibility — PMI's Two Pathways
PMI offers two eligibility pathways. Pathway 1 requires a four‑year bachelor's degree (or global equivalent), 36 months of leading and directing projects within the last 8 years, and 35 contact hours of formal project management education — or a CAPM certification.
Pathway 2 requires a high school diploma, associate's degree, or global equivalent, plus 60 months of leading and directing projects within the last 8 years, and the same 35 contact hours.
For Canadian candidates, "global equivalent" of a bachelor's degree typically includes a 3‑year Canadian university bachelor's, a 4‑year university degree, or a recognized college diploma at the appropriate level. We confirm equivalency before you submit, so you don't lose time on a rejected application.
2026 PMI Membership & Exam Fees
USD $405
PMI membership currently costs USD $139 ($129 annual dues plus a $10 application fee) for the first year, and USD $129 to renew. Members pay USD $405 to take the PMP exam; non‑members pay USD $555.
Joining PMI saves more than the membership cost on your first exam attempt — and includes a free digital copy of the PMBOK Guide. This is the rare case where the math is unambiguous: become a member first.
Where Canadians Take the Exam
You can take the PMP at any Pearson VUE Authorized Test Centre. Major Canadian cities with multiple Pearson VUE locations include Toronto, North York, Mississauga, Vaughan, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montréal, Québec City, Halifax, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon.
Alternatively, OnVUE online proctored testing lets you sit the exam from home with a webcam, government ID, and a quiet, private room — popular among candidates in rural and Northern communities.
2026 Salary Ranges in Canada
$140K+
Industry sources place the national average total pay for a PMP‑certified project manager in Canada at roughly CAD $79,000–$95,000 mid‑career, with the 75th percentile reaching the high $90,000s and senior PMP holders in Toronto and Vancouver regularly exceeding CAD $140,000.
The Project Management Institute's Salary Survey consistently shows PMP holders earning roughly 20–25 percent more than non‑credentialed peers — a gap that has held steady for over a decade.
By province, the highest‑paying markets in 2026 are the Greater Toronto Area, Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, and Calgary's energy corridor. The 2026 Canadian project management salary band runs roughly CAD $80,000–$120,000 for mid‑level roles, with senior PMPs in tech, finance, and energy clearing $150,000+. Across the board, the PMP is the credential most strongly correlated with salary uplift.
Provincial Demand & Industry
Demand for PMPs varies significantly across Canadian provinces.
Ontario drives the highest concentration of Canadian PMP roles, with the Toronto–Waterloo corridor representing the largest tech and financial services project portfolio in the country. PMI Toronto Chapter is one of PMI's largest globally.
British Columbia hosts the largest PMI chapter in Canada by membership — PMI Canadian West Coast Chapter — with thousands of active PMP members. Strong demand from Vancouver tech, infrastructure megaprojects, transit expansion, and Pacific‑trade logistics.
Alberta sees strong PMP demand in oil and gas, energy transition, renewables, and Calgary's growing tech ecosystem. Senior PMPs in Calgary's energy sector regularly clear CAD $125,000 base.
Quebec hosts an active bilingual market through PMI Montreal Chapter. French‑language exam materials are available, and many federal infrastructure programs require bilingual certified project managers. Atlantic Canada is smaller but growing fast — Halifax shipbuilding, Saint John energy, and St. John's offshore projects all depend on PMP‑credentialed leaders. The Prairies (Manitoba and Saskatchewan) see steady demand in agricultural technology, mining, potash, and Crown corporation infrastructure programs.
Maintaining Your PMP — PDUs & Talent Triangle
60 PDUs
Once certified, PMP holders must earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every three‑year Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) cycle. PDUs must be balanced across PMI's Talent Triangle: Ways of Working (formerly Technical), Power Skills (formerly Leadership), and Business Acumen (formerly Strategic).
Certification renewal also carries a fee — USD $60 for PMI members or USD $150 for non‑members.
We help you map your three‑year PDU cycle from day one of certification, so renewal becomes a non‑event rather than a scramble.
